Steelers Season Drags On

The way I started an article yesterday was by saying the words "Failure in the fourth quarter has become the norm for the Pittsburgh Steelers Defense in 2009."  Last night the Steelers played their worst in years, losing to the last place Browns, last in everything; wins in their own division, conference, league; all the most losses.  Losing to the last place Browns the Steelers have now lost to the team with the lowest ranked offense, the lowest ranked defense, a coach on his way out (maybe not, now) and they have summed up the 2009 season by proving they aren't who we thought they were.

Statistically how does a team lose so many close ones?  Last night was the first loss by a touchdown all season.  The NFL Network showed a graphic that indicated the Steelers are the first team since the 1998 Broncos to go 12 games never losing by as much as 7 points.  This Steelers team is one of the NFL leaders in yards, passing yards, defensively in many areas.  Top 10 in almost every category.  'Except for wins.

How does a team go 6-2 and follow that with 5 losses, after coming off a Super Bowl Championship season?

This truly reveals how the nature of the NFL with parity and level playing fields exists how it is.  Look at the rosters of the Steelers and Browns.  Who could have thought, in their right mind, that the names on the Browns roster would be of the men victorious?

I don't see the Steelers winning another game, and by some miracle if they did win the final three and back into the playoffs I would be very disappointed.  I don't want to see this team in the playoffs.  I can't believe I ever have said that but it's easy to explain; they would be killed!

You have to be playing good football, steam rolling opponents, on the way to the playoffs to be a serious contender for the Super Bowl.  Teams that just nip all their opponents don't win it all; vice New England who cheated their way to a few Lombardis.  I do not want to see the Steelers back their way into the playoffs and get their on the laurels of other's greater failures to close out 2009.  It just wouldn't look good.  This situation now is terrible.  How many days until the kickoff of the 2009 season?  Considering all the fears of NFL players going on strike in 2011, we may have only one more season of Steelers football before we're literally robbed of it for a year maybe.  This team is robbing fans prematurely.
